A letter from Main Street Neighborhood Association
What’s Happening on Main Street — September
August 30, 2026
Neighbors,
September is the month this street actually looks like itself again — porches occupied, leaves not yet a problem, everyone back from wherever they went. Here is what is coming.
Fall Cleanup — Saturday, September 20
Nine to noon, meeting at the Main Street pocket park. Gloves, bags, and coffee are provided. Bring a wheelbarrow or a spare rake if you have one; we always run short.
- Meet at the pocket park at 9.
- Sign in — the city loans us tools based on the head count.
- Rake, bag, repeat until noon. There is pizza after.

Neighbors clearing the 400 block last October. Ruth brought the good rakes.
Around the block
- Leaf pickup starts the week of November 3 on our side of the avenue. The city's schedule is here.
- The zoning case at 412 Main goes before the commission October 8. Read the staff report before you form an opinion — it is shorter than you would think.
- Library book sale, October 4 and 5, in the Friends of Main Street Library annex. Take a shift at the table.
- The crosswalk petition stands at 118 signatures. It needs 150 to carry weight downtown — sign it here.
- Porch concerts wrap up September 27 at the Delgados’. Bring a chair.
A word about helping
We are three people short on the beautification committee and one short of a treasurer’s helper. Neither job is as large as it sounds, and both come with a standing licence to complain at meetings.

Reply to this letter and it comes to me — not to a no-reply address.
See you on the porch,
